Dear Cosmic Community,
Recently on my Facebook Live I spoke about the power of the Super Moon and how many in our community of light were experiencing sore necks at the same time that cosmic energy was intensified. I also spoke about the Vagus Nerve in relation to this and how The Vagus Nerve was incredibly important for transporting light through your body and also in catapulting your spiritual progression.
So, what is the Vagus Nerve and why should you learn about it and begin to champion it’s power within your body?
In today’s ALL-NEW blog post, let’s discover the incredible world of the Vagus Nerve, its role in relaxation, the head/heart connection and how it’s your gateway to a deeper spiritual knowing…
What is The Vagus Nerve and how does it serve you?
The Vagus Nerve begins its journey through the human body emerging from the medulla which is the lower part of the brain stem. Named after the Latin word for ‘Wandering’, the Vagus Nerve (The Wanderer Nerve) is the the longest nerve of your entire nervous system. Like a system of roots running down the back of your neck, branching off to the left and right side of your body, it’s responsible for inter-phasing with the parasympathetic control of your heart, lungs and digestive system. It’s your parasympathetic nervous system that’s responsible for rest, light and digestion. Indeed the Vagus Nerve can slow down your heart rate, lower blood pressure and increase digestion.
Activating OR (Stimulating) The Vagus Nerve
The Vagus Nerve naturally performs its vital work of regulating your internal organs, digestive system, respiratory rate, heart rate and certain reflex actions such as sneezing, coughing and swallowing. Yet, you can also learn to physically ‘activate’ and turn up (known as stimulating) the frequency of these functions. When you physically activate the Vagus Nerve, you’ll instantly send a message throughout your entire body to relax, let-go and allow light to more easily flood your being. It’s a practice that can upshift your consciousness, as you work with the body-mind connection in a real-time, focused way.
Activating your Vagus Nerve can also release stuck energy in the body, enabling you to more easily let-go of past experiences where you may still be holding on. It’s also wonderful for grounding spiritual experiences into the body and for aligning the consciousness of your head and heart (the personality and soul).
How to Activate your Vagus Nerve and Turn on Your Spiritual Light
Breathe slowly in and out of your belly. Begin the breath right down into the belly and take it up all the way through your lungs, before you slowly exhale. Take a whole body breath, bringing into action the entire use of your lungs, filling up your body with light.
Pilates, Yoga and Slow Stretching also all naturally activate the Vagus Nerve. It’s why you feel so relaxed and ‘in the flow’ when you complete such classes or exercises. They’re wonderfully good for both your physical and spiritual health.
Exposing Yourself to Cold – A brisk morning walk in the chilly air with lighter clothing, or finishing your shower with a cold blast lowers your ‘fight or flight’ response and increases the body’s ability to relax.
Chanting OM – The Vagus Nerve is connected to your vocal cords, so that when you chant OM or hum in a deep resonance you naturally activate the nerve endings, sending a flood of relaxing light through your being. Chanting builds up immunity too.
Meditate – The act of meditation naturally releases tension in your muscles, which increases vagal tone and allows messages between your head and your heart to more easily flow.
Massage and Energy Healing – Both of these practices naturally release tension in the body. Working through the head, neck and feet stimulates vagal tone, as does working directly on the right side of the neck, gently massaging the carotid sinus.
Sleeping on your right side (rather than left side) – This keeps your heart lines free and open, so that vagal activity is higher. I also liken this to the Reclining Buddha stance. The Buddha laid down, reaching enlightenment, during physical transition – on the right side (the physical side), with heart and soul (on the left side) open and free.
The Head and Heart Connection (personality into soul)
One of the greatest roles that the Vagus Nerve serves in your physical body is the way in which it so intricately carries energy information between your head and heart – between your personality and soul.
To understand the distinction between personality and soul (head and heart energy) just imagine that soul expresses itself, via the portal of your heart And it’s via the portal of your head (your brain) that your personality is expressed. Your personality is created by the soul. It’s your human role and character, with the purpose of life being to wake-up to who you are as you naturally connect head into heart to take direct guidance from soul. When you can do this, your personality becomes the spokesperson for soul. This is when your head and heart are integrated and the Vagus Nerve carries great responsibility in facilitating this connection. The more active and flowing your Vagus Nerve is, the easier it is to lead your life from soul and to temper the noise of your personality.
By keeping your Vagus nerve activated, you give yourself great opportunity for the head and heart to pass information to one another without interruption, as energy messages flow unhindered between the two great centres of consciousness.
The Head and Gut Connection (your gut feelings)
And just as the head and heart are energetically and physically connected, so is the head and the gut (personality and power centre). Indeed, you’d be familiar with the expression ‘trusting your gut feelings’ or to ‘go with your gut’. Yet, have you ever wondered why and what this means from the spiritual perspective? Well, it’s the Vagus Nerve that’s responsible for this information flow.
Your gut has innate intelligence. It’s a centre of consciousness in your body, just as your head and heart are. Your gut is your power centre and it tells you when to ‘physically’ make a move, pull back or stay. By employing the connected teamwork between your head (personality), heart (soul) and gut (power centre) you become aligned with your intuition and physical/spiritual feedback Ensuring that your Vagus Nerve is healthy and active, naturally promotes this 3-way connection of consciousness.
Healing Your Body – Increasing The Light
Another important function of the Vagus Nerve is that when it’s activated, it literally flushes your body with light. In particular, you’ll find that the act of ‘yawning’ whether natural or induced, activates the Vagus Nerve and promotes the flow of healing light in your body.
Yawning and The Head/Heart Instant Connection
When you yawn, you open up the jaw and entire back of your neck, massaging the Vagus Nerve and stimulating the ‘zeal energy centre’ at the base of your neck – near the atlas. So, regularly yawning (a nice, big yawn) is fantastic for flooding your body with light and instantly connecting head and heart. Try it before meditation. Try it when you’re tired. You may even find that you naturally yawn when stretching, meditating and when practicing Yoga or Pilates. Yawning is a natural – simple (yet high-tech) mind-body connection impetus.
You’re starting to see how important the Vagus Nerve is in carrying energy information between the major centres of consciousness of the body. Indeed, to master your human existence (working as a soul through your human body) it’s essential to develop your mind/body/soul connection.
By focusing upon simple Vagus Nerve activation exercises each day, you can accelerate your spiritual growth. You’ll also develop a deeper appreciation of how spiritual energy works in conjunction with the physical. You’ll experience (first-hand) how your body is a divine instrument that works seamlessly with the inter-phase of energy, light and spirit
Developing Empathy, Intuition and Telepathy
And finally, a great advantage of developing good Vagus Nerve awareness, with a healthy connection between the head, heart and gut, is that your natural empathic and telepathic skills, plus your intuition will increase and flow unhindered. So often, people can mistrust their own intuition, because of poor inner connections. Yet, simply working with heightened Vagus Nerve awareness, you can shift this.
As you learn to visualise the Vagus Nerve communicating between your major energy centres, you’ll begin to trust in the information that you receive. The key is to apply (to action) what your intuition and gut feelings tell you. Act on the voice of your heart and temper the over-use of your personality, as you learn to take instructions from the soul. As you do this, you’ll find your whole life opens up and takes on greater meaning, reward, satisfaction and purpose.
I trust that you’ve found this blog post insightful and uplifting and are now ever-aware of the magnificent Vagus Nerve and the vital role that it plays in developing your mind-body, head-heart and deeper spiritual connection here on Earth.
