May 2023 is one of the most important months of the year. We have a Lunar Eclipse, Jupiter changes signs and moves into Taurus, a powerful Jupiter-Pluto square, Mercury goes direct and more!
In May we have a record of planets in the sign of Taurus. May 2023 is a time to embrace the Bull inside each one of us and make friends with this steady, resourceful and productive energy.
But let’s take a look at the most important transits of the month:
May 2nd, 2023 – Sun Conjunct Mercury
On May 2nd, 2023 Sun is conjunct Mercury retrograde at 11° Taurus. This conjunction marks the beginning of a new 4-month Mercury cycle.
Mercury Retrograde conjunct Sun is similar to a New Moon. We could rightly call this conjunction a “New Mercury”. If New Moons (Moon conjunct Sun) are great to start an activity you can complete in one month (or one lunar cycle)…
… if Jupiter cycles (Jupiter conjunct Sun, happens only once a year) are great for initiating a goal you can complete in one year… (one Jupiter cycle)
… Mercury cycles are great for starting projects you can complete in a 4-month time.
Even if you may not actually initiate something new (you may want to wait for Mercury direct on May 15th) this is nevertheless a time to seed a new idea or a new project. Pay attention to any thoughts, news, or insights.
May 5th, 2023 – Full Moon Eclipse In Scorpio
On May 5th, 2023 we have a Full Moon Eclipse at 14° Scorpio. This is a South Node Eclipse. South Node Eclipses are the culmination of our past actions: some things may come to fruition. Other things may come to their natural end.
The Lunar Eclipse is opposite Uranus, so the final outcome may not be what you anticipate!
Whatever happens around this eclipse, it is meant to be. There’s no need to fear anything. Be open to whatever comes.
May 7th, 2023 – Venus enters Cancer
On May 7th, 2023 Venus enters Cancer.
Venus feels good in Cancer, since both Venus and Cancer speak the same language: the language of feelings. There’s an incredible power in expressing our feelings.
Most of our troubles can be traced back to some unexpressed emotion or an unarticulated feeling. We felt something, but instead of expressing how we feel, instead of going along with our emotional nature, we repressed our feelings, missing an important opportunity for growth.
The emotional nature of Cancer can also increase our sensitivity and make us prone to mood swings, so it is important to pay attention to “how” we actually express our feelings.
May 9th, 2023 – Sun Conjunct Uranus
On May 9th, 2023 Sun is conjunct Uranus at 18° Taurus. The Sun is our identity, and Uranus is the planet of freedom and liberation.
The Sun conjunct Uranus transit is an invitation to be unapologetically ourselves. In a world dominated by trends, social media, peer pressure, or doing what’s ‘politically correct’ – dare to be yourself.
The world doesn’t need 8000000000 versions of the same thing – the world needs that 8000000000 unique expressions of life. We are each a creative expression in action. Each a creative force of nature.
May 15th, 2023 – Mercury Goes Direct
On May 15th, 2023 Mercury goes direct at 5° Taurus. More than in other signs, this Mercury retrograde has been painfully slow.
Either by choice – or by circumstance (read delays, changes of plans, people not returning emails because they have to ‘think things through’ etc.) we got a taste of Mercury in Taurus’ thoroughness and slow living.
The good news is that we now have a solid, bulletproof plan that will never have to be changed and revised.
May 16th, 2023 – Jupiter Enters Taurus
On May 16th, 2023 Jupiter enters Taurus. Jupiter’s ingress into a new sign is one of the most important transits of the year. Something in your life (indicated by the area of your life ruled by Jupiter) is about to change.
Jupiter is the first social planet, describing how our society as a whole operates. When Jupiter was in Aries we experienced the more Martian, “my way or the highway” expression of Jupiter.
With Jupiter in the Venus-ruled sign of Taurus, society will chill out a bit. We will have more patience with each other’s beliefs and points of view.
Jupiter is also the planet of growth, expansion, and abundance. The sign Jupiter transits tells us where we want to experience growth and abundance. Jupiter in Taurus will shift our growth focus to material possessions, financial growth, and a desire for comfort and stability.
Jupiter in Taurus will encourage us to take practical steps toward achieving our goals, particularly in areas related to finances, material stability and personal values. I will write an extensive report about Jupiter’s 1-year transit in Taurus closer to the date.
May 17th, 2023 – Jupiter Square Pluto
Jupiter’s ingress into Taurus starts with a BANG! On May 17th, 2023 Jupiter is square Pluto at 0° Aquarius.
Jupiter is the planet of expansion. Pluto is the planet of transformation. A square is a tense aspect that initiates change. Jupiter in Taurus square Pluto in Aquarius can create tension and conflict between our desire for material growth and our need for transcendence and transformation.
This aspect can challenge us to look deeply at our values, goals and beliefs, and to question whether they are a reflection of our highest truth. Do we really want to live in that posh neighborhood? Do we really need to send our kids to that private school?
The answer is not necessarily a NO. Some people reject material abundance because of limiting beliefs and a scarcity mindset. Other people use material abundance and status symbols as an overcompensation for a lack of self-worth.
Pluto will ask us to challenge our beliefs around our personal values and material abundance.
Pluto will also ask us to confront issues of power and control and let go of anything that no longer serves our growth and evolution. In which ways have you been keeping yourself small out of fear of losing power and control?
May 19th, 2023 – New Moon In Taurus
On May 19th, 2023, we have a New Moon at 28° Taurus.
This is one of the most auspicious New Moons of the year because it only makes harmonious aspects with other planets: the New Moon in Taurus is sextile Mars in Leo, sextile Neptune in Pisces, and trine Pluto in Aquarius.
At this New Moon in Taurus, the universe is truly on your side!
The New Moon is also at the apex of what we call a “Minor Triangle”. This suggests that a project you are particularly interested in, a topic you’ve been purring a lot of energy into, will finally materialize (or will be brought to the next level of manifestation).
May 20th, 2023 – Mars Enters Leo
On May 20th, 2023 Mars enters Leo.
When Mars is in the sign of the Sun, we find it easier to connect to our heart, and act from that place of truth and authenticity. As a result, we will feel more in tune with life, and confident about our actions.
May 21st, 2023 – Sun Enters Gemini
On May 21st, 2023 Sun enters Gemini. Happy birthday to all Geminis out there!
